5 of the Most Scenic Roads in New Jersey
The fall is the perfect time to go on a road trip. The trees are lit up in beautiful colors; the leaves are falling in gorgeous displays; and the air is crisp and fresh. New Jersey has some wonderful, scenic roads that would make any road trip better, whether you are just passing through The Garden State or are taking a tour of it.
Here are five of the most scenic roads in New Jersey that you simply shouldn’t miss:
The stretch from Colesville to Rosemont is about 80 miles, and it passes by some fantastic roadside attractions, such as The Land of Make Believe, Space Farms, and Goliath, the world’s largest preserved bear. The road will also take you by antique shops, vineyards, horse farms, and some beautiful stretches of country.
From West Milford to Frenchtown, you’ll see everything from lush forests to sparkling waterways to quaint towns. Starting at the New York state line, this 70-mile stretch will take you by the train station featured in the movie “The Station Agent,” a gorgeous tree farm, and a family-friendly milk house for breakfast or lunch.
The 40 miles between Allentown and Tuckerton is a popular “back way” to the shore. The sometimes overlooked thoroughfare passes by a bombing range, a racetrack, a berry farm, a couple of small towns, and several picturesque country churches.
For some fun twists and turns, drive the 32 miles of Route 521 between Montague and Hope. You’ll also pass by plenty of state parks, beautiful waterways, and The Stillwater General Store, which opened in 1876. It’s the oldest, still-running general store in the state.
Of course, a drive down the shore offers spectacular views at any time of year. Between Ocean City and North Wildwood, you can see the Stone Harbor, Nummy Island, Grassy Sound, and Sea Isle City. You’ll also pass right by the free beach in Strathmere.
Get your car ready for a wonderful fall drive down one of these scenic roads on your way to New Jersey landmarks or other distant locations. Nobody enjoys sitting on the shoulder, waiting for roadside repairs or a tow. Trade in your old clunker for a reliable Honda, and come in for regular maintenance before you hit the open road.
